Everyone's talking about VA Tech

So I will too...

Someone asked me what I thought about it. What can I think about it? It's a tragedy... what else can I say. I've seen people's blogs about this, talking about the need for higher gun control, making guns harder to get. I don't know what the solution is. I'm not one who believes we should be restricted in our rights, but how can we protect the many from the one who may snap. And how will we know who it will be?

I read yesterday that a certain university (I can't speak for others) was planning a candle light vigil last night for the victims. I think at one point I may have thought this was a nice gesture. Maybe I've become too jaded, but when I saw that, I was not touched or comforted by the thought. A candle light vigil.... how is that going to help? "Hey look everyone, we feel bad! We're showing we feel bad by burning stuff." No. It may help one or two people in the unlikely event they were related to one of the victims only by giving them other people to comfort them. Other than that... no. Why do we do things like this? Is it really just to show everyone else that we are "good people" or do the people planning these events really think they're making some sort of difference somehow? I really don't have any answers. I wish I did, I wish I could make the actions and reactions of the masses make sense in my brain.

A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Store...

and I can only describe it with images. Images made very crappily with Paint and a mouse, w00t!

So... pretty close to my house we have this intersection that looks kinda like this:

So there we are and the cars are all lined up normally. We're sitting in the lane to turn left behind that other guy sitting there.

The green light is going left and right and when it changes, there will first be a green arrow for the bottom turning lane. So apparently the guy behind the guy turning left in front of us decided for whatever reason he could sit in the lane next to the left turning lane.

But the guy turning left from the right side wasn't gonna get HIS turn taken away from him. Or, I don't know, maybe he didn't realize that car was there.

But when he made the turn, instead of backing up and correcting himself or whatever (cause we all saw what happened) he just pulls onto the island. What an idiot! I don't know if he got off the island (he was in a little PoS car) cause we didn't wait around, but I do know he had to wait for a buncha people before he could even go.

Hot Wheels are BAD!!!

"The 2007 Hot Wheels lineup includes fun muscle cars and speed demons, but omitting practical and fuel-efficient vehicles sends the wrong message to kids" (http://blog.wired.com/cars/2006/11/toy_cars_lack_f.html)

I read this snippet today while browsing Google Reader and probably overreacted.

hot wheels shouldn't have to send messages to kids
doesn't anyone ever take responsibility themselves anymore??
how about PARENTING??
oh right.... i forgot. we live in a society of blame and frivolous lawsuits

these are some hot wheels from when i was a kid. they aren't the "practical" OR "fuel-efficient." that is SO not the point of hot wheels. besides... i turned out to be a conscientious gas consumer... no toy car is gonna tell me what to do!

grrrrr (annoying nerd stuff)

So i've been working with this problem for a while and the solution REALLY annoyed me. I used to be able to use the command+k to access my windows shares using smb right. blahblah, nothing difficult. Then one day, it stops working!?!?! I would type in the smb://serverip and it'd be like, "cannot connect cause name or password is incorrect." Huh?!?! I didn't even get a prompt box. What the hell?? yeah, so finally, after stupid trying of stuff... using cifs, trying different formats for the connection, using smbclient from terminal (which btw worked, but i'm too dumb to work the command line), disabling and enabling the microsoft signed traffic dealy (disabled cause previous to 10.4, had to be. i have 10.4, found out it encrypts by default) I find out why it isn't working. YOU HAVE TO HAVE NETBIOS OVER TCP/IP ENABLED!!! WHAT!?!??!?! it's true. as soon as i enabled it on the servers, bam, authentication box, connection works. grrrrrrrrrrrrrr. it doesn't even make sense.

ok, now so it's not just a nerd post... the microwavable chef boyardee mac&cheese is gross.

Interesting experiences in the drive-thru pt 2

Last night we went to Taco Bell and the car exploded in the drive-thru. No joke, smoke and everything. While we were waiting for a tow truck, i was watching traffic pass. two trucks went by, one after the other, pretty shitty trucks. somebody must have thought they were cool though because the trucks were all jacked up and had ground effects. it was pretty funny.

'Magic Mushroom' Drug Study Probes Science, Spirituality

Volunteers who tried the hallucinogenic ingredient in psychedelic mushrooms during a controlled study funded by the U.S. government had "mystical" experiences, and many of them still felt unusually happy months later.

According to the Baltimore team, nearly two-thirds of thevolunteers said they achieved a "mystical experience"with "substantial personal meaning." One-third rated thepsilocybin experience as "the single most spirituallysignificant experience of his or her life," and another 38percent placed the experience among their "top five" mostspiritually significant moments.

Most also said they became better, gentler people in thefollowing two months. "We don't think that'sdelusional, because we also interviewed family members and friendsby telephone, and they confirmed these kinds of claims,"Griffiths said.

heh, i just found another article about the study. It's from China and involves the word "magic."

This is kinda fun

I got Flock and i've been playing with it for today. It integrates a lot of things into the browser. It has pictures on the top from flickr and photobucket with drag and drop-ability. And right now, I'm typing this blog into a pop up window that will publish it to blogger for me. The bottom has this cool thing that you can just drag web content into and use later. Sort of like Google Notebook, but it's not in the way. I actually used it to hold some pictures that I put into notebook later (by drag and drop). I added some extensions too; web developer, google notebook (it tries to make you think it won't work, but it does), gmail checker, del.icio.us. It's built off the Firefox browser so it's pretty much like using that, plus. The thing i don't like is the first time you start, it takes FOREVER. Not unlike Firefox. I solve that by never closing my browser. w00t

Interesting Experiences at the Drive-Thru

Sometimes we go to a McDonalds for breakfast on the way to work. The way this McDonalds is laid out, there is one lane for the drive-thru that splits for two ordering kiosks then converge back together to get to the windows. There is a lane around this for getting around the building. We got in line and got up to the split, but the line wasn't moving so we waited to see who would go before picking a side. Behind us were about four or five cars. We notice a lady in a white car start to back up and go around another car and try to go around us. She got next to us so we went to a kiosk. She had the nerve to honk at us. She was trying to cut! Didn't you get in trouble for that in elementary school?? I just don't understand... what was the point?

Some people like morning coffee, others like to suck on a battery

ha, so apparently ie gets pissed if you try to call a javascript function twice. my bad. but my "FUCK YOU IE" still remains valid as IE has no native support for m-jpegs. ugh. what am I supposed to do now???

FUCK YOU IE

Error on page!?!?! it works in Firefox, wtf is wrong with you. Yeah and how about error codes that actually tell me something. I totally know what "Object Required" means especially when the source code there is a BLANK LINE.... seriously. So I said, 'maybe the code generated from this site just doesn't work.' and tried a whole new page with nothing else. IT'S FINE. no errors at all!!! I didn't change it a bit to add it to the existing page and BAM, errors. Fucking IE. I don't care what anyone says, IE 7 is NOT going to be cool. It's going to suck just like it does now. wooeee, tabs!! yeah, everyone else did that 3 years ago!

Save the Pacific Northwest Tree Octopus

Yesterday, I was browsing around teh intarweb and ran across this. I sent it to someone cause it was really funny. he messages me:
him: what?
me: what?
him: The reasons for this dire situation include: decimation of habitat by logging and suburban encroachment; building of roads that cut off access to the water which it needs for spawning; predation by foreign species such as house cats; and booming populations of its natural predators, including the bald eagle and sasquatch.
me: yes
him: yeah, its a joke
me: IT'S A FUCKING TREE OCTOPUS!
of course it's a joke
him: sasquatch?
me: seems fitting

He told me later he thought maybe octopi could have evolved into land creatures so he didn't know it was a joke till he got to the sasquatch part. Too funny!

the reason we can't use solar power is because the sun goes away every night and no one knows where it goes!

so tonight we went to a comedy club. it's in the rich asshole part of town now, so that sucks. it's on the second floor and we got there early so we're jammed in a tiny space trying to let the people inside get out so we can get in. and... there's this drunk bitch behind us. this drunk bitch tried everything to get in front of us and yelled at everyone who was moving cause she wasn't. luckily once we were seated, she was in the front and we were in the middle-ish. so i don't hear from the drunk bitch for a while. finally, lewis black is up there. if you haven't heard him, try to cause he's fuckin funny. anyway, he was talking about some bill to allow people to carry concealed handguns. then he said, Dick Chaney... and that drunk bitch and her friend were like, oh, he's a great guy! much booing followed that comment. Lewis asked her why she said so and she was all, oh he's smart and he's been in office for a long time blah blah i'm a whore. so Lewis tells her no, she's wrong, he's not a good guy. she keeps trying to defend herself and finally he says, "shut the fuck up." so finally they shut the fuck up and he goes on to tell us how it was supposed to go and then go on with his sketch in a similar fashion. i could see one of the drunk bitches from my seat and after that incident, she pretty much sulked at every joke he made. then.... dun da da daaaa... SHE WALKED OUT! both of them. it was awesome. the crowd all cheered when she left! the best part is, her husband stayed for the whole show and laughed his ass off.

I'm BAAACK

and i had an awesome time. I have a ton of pictures too. The first day I got to Phoenix and we drove down to San Diego; left around noon. We went through these awesome sand dunes. It was dark when we got there so we went next door and ate at Joe's Crab Shack. YUM! Our hotel was right by the beach. We went for a moonlit walk after dinner. The next day, we rented bikes and went along the boardwalk type thing. We ended up at this really cool jetty and walked clear to the end of it. I took pictures of surfers. yay surfers! That afternoon we fell asleep and missed the sunset, but woke up and went down the pier at ocean beach. It was really cool to see the city lights from way out there. We wanted to go see that part in anchorman where they're sitting above San Diego, but we found out it's military owned and closes at sunset. We ended up somewhere else, but it was cool cause we could see fireworks off in the distance. Plus the skyline and the mitsubishi tower (with the green stripes). Our last day in San Diego, we went to Balboa Park. My favorite was the water lily pond and the botanical building. but the organ pavilion was cool too. plus there were a few great signs. We hung out at Ocean Beach for a while and ate at Hodad's. I had a veggie burger, mmmm. One point on Ocean Beach had the most confusing sign i've ever seen. That night we went to Point Loma and watched the sun set before we started back to Phoenix.

Back in Phoenix, we did some cool stuff, but I've been there before so I didn't take as many pictures. We went hiking at fish creek and I got to see another awesome sunset. I went up to Jerome with my aunt and uncle. First we ate at Young's Farm, which was yummy even though we missed breakfast. On the way, we stopped at a rest area and I saw a lizard. It was not the first lizard I'd seen there, just the biggest. In Jerome, we went to a bar called Paul & Jerry's, then to an art gallery. We got to see a glass blowing demonstration. It was so cool. We went to another bar after that (i don't remember the name, it was our second one, remember), but it had the coolest bathrooms. they were tiny, but fun to read. It rained while we were there and it rained the next day in Phoenix (weird). It was a fun trip. I will be going back to San Diego for sure. That is probably the best place I have ever been.

wow, i just looked at this, and the links are hard to see. anything grayer than the white writing is a link to a picture. FIND THEM ALL!!

i don't understand people. they get so stressed and upset about things that shouldn't bother them that much. why?? why don't they realize that it's not as big a deal as they're making it. it's not healthy for people to do that, but so many do. is there something wrong with me? do i not see the big picture or little picture or the same picture? we're having sort of a situation at our house, but there's not much i can do about it so i just ignore it. he dwells on it. we went to a movie last night to get away and it's still all he talked about afterwards. but he won't confront the individual. i don't get it! maybe i've just lived in enough situations where me and the other people i live with hate eachother that i can just ignore them. maybe he hasn't. what i don't get is how he bitches and complains to me all the time, but won't confront the situation. shit or get off the pot, man. it's not worth it.

wooohooo! i R l337.... or something. all kinds of fun can be had changing the logonui.exe and ntoskrnl.exe files! I found this cool program called resource hacker that lets you open these into their parts. i guess it decompiles it and then recompiles it. you can export/replace bmps and change scripts. it took me a while cause there's so many parts, but i finally got a sweet login screen. the loading screen was actually really easy to change. It only took one try. and now, what you've all wanted to see....

Further Examples Why Seventeen Year Olds Should NOT Be Parents

Holy shit. My roommate is dating this girl who's seventeen and has a toddler. He's like 27 or something, but she's emancipated so it's legal and he's all into the young girls for some reason. Anyway, this girl, I don't think she'd ever even babysat before she had her kid. Yesterday we were sitting here, playing Guild Wars, and this girl is over and they're watching Boondock Saints. Of course the toddler is sitting on the couch next to her. I'm not a parent or anything, but I don't think I would want my toddler to be hearing that language or seeing that violence, even if she didn't understand it. So of course the toddler gets restless and she gets off the couch and starts wandering around. At one point I see her running around carrying her mom's box of cigarettes and a lighter. Great toys. Then I see her going into a closet. This house is no where near baby/toddler-proof. I wouldn't want a kid near most of this shit cause they'd either get hurt or break it. Sorry, I do NOT need to be getting in trouble for some kid getting hurt at my place when I didn't want her there in the first place. I don't know if when she's at home, the other adults watch her cause she's family or what. I wouldn't want to impose my child on some one else and that's what's going on when she brings her over here and lets her run around.

last day

today is my last day at this job. WOOOOOOOOOOOOO! yeah. i will miss some of the people i work with, but i will definitely NOT miss all the political bullshit and everything else that goes on around here. i just hope they find some people who can do their jobs. they're at probably a 70/30 of people who can't do anything right, don't know how to do anything, or just plain refuse to. So basically, alls i got left to say is:

Orbital

Yay! i just got a rad orbital piercing. when he did the top one, it didn't hurt hardly at all. there was the initial pinch, but then he was movin it around and everything and it was cool. the second hole HURT. he said the closer to the middle of your ear that you get, the more it hurts. i'll buy that. then he had to get the ring through it. it was killer, but now (even though it still hurts a little) i love it. i'm scared for when i clean it, i don't really want to touch the thing, but i KNOW it'll feel nice when i do cause when he cleaned it up afterwards, that coolness felt soooo good. anyway, onto the pictures. one's kind of blurry, but you get the idea.

The Living End

i FINALLY got my own copy of "roll on" by the living end. i first heard it like 3 or so years ago and asked the guy if i could have a copy of it. obviously he never gave me one. i was riding to lunch with this guy i work with and it was playing in his car! i'm listening to it now! i love the bassist, he's awesome. he picked his bass upside down when i saw them and there's a smiley face on the back. also, it's an upright bass. i should find a picture....

ok, found one. he doesn't have his smiley face in this one, but his bass is still fun.

!!!!!!

i finally have something i'm excited about and looking forward too. on sept. 1 at 1pm i'm going to be getting my tattoo! it's an awesome design too. i found it on the internet, but redrew it for me. it's a dragon, it's head and body and one wing are blue, but it's tail and other wing go into a tribal design. i know it's not for another almost month, but i made my appointment yesterday and i'm still excited about that. it's such a nicer place than where i got my last one done too. the last one, the place was ok, but the guy was really dirty and kind of scary looking. i would have liked if the girl there had done it, but she'd never done the uv ink before. well, it ended up ok, though (the tat is awesome) and now i have scary tattoo stories to tell. this place i'm going sept 1, there's a reason it's booked till then. it's a really nice place, very clean and sanitary. the people seem awesome and very clean. plus, looking through their tattoo book, they are very good at what they do. ohhhh, i'm so excited. i guess i know now i won't be leaving till after the 1st!

job hunting sucks

it really really does. not only is it hard to find a job i'm qualified for, it's hard to actually apply for them! cover letters and all that shit. i'm going to end up with a job i hate and i know it. only a couple of the ones i've found even seem remotely interesting. the rest seem like too much bullshit. i've found a ton of jobs i'm underqualified for, but then i find jobs i could do and it's like... high school, no experience so i feel very overqualified for those. if i was alone, i'd have been out of here months ago. i'd have taken a crappy job at like best buy or some random computer repair shop just so i could have left. he doesn't know how close i am every day to just packing up my car and driving off. i stay because of him. damn it.
