Everyone's talking about VA Tech

So I will too...

Someone asked me what I thought about it. What can I think about it? It's a tragedy... what else can I say. I've seen people's blogs about this, talking about the need for higher gun control, making guns harder to get. I don't know what the solution is. I'm not one who believes we should be restricted in our rights, but how can we protect the many from the one who may snap. And how will we know who it will be?

I read yesterday that a certain university (I can't speak for others) was planning a candle light vigil last night for the victims. I think at one point I may have thought this was a nice gesture. Maybe I've become too jaded, but when I saw that, I was not touched or comforted by the thought. A candle light vigil.... how is that going to help? "Hey look everyone, we feel bad! We're showing we feel bad by burning stuff." No. It may help one or two people in the unlikely event they were related to one of the victims only by giving them other people to comfort them. Other than that... no. Why do we do things like this? Is it really just to show everyone else that we are "good people" or do the people planning these events really think they're making some sort of difference somehow? I really don't have any answers. I wish I did, I wish I could make the actions and reactions of the masses make sense in my brain.
