One thing you should know about me is i'm addicted to
google reader. i have hundreds of feeds and read most of them. today, i was reading the how-stuff-works page on the
necronomicon. so the necronomicon is an invention of h.p. lovecraft in case you didn't know. it's sort of a dark spell book. well lovecraft has an immense cult following and there are many published books entitled necronomicon. i, in fact, own a copy of the version by
simon, which doesn't really stay true to the lovecraft stories, i've heard. this particular version is made up of various occult rituals and sumerian mythology. i haven't read the whole thing, but it's different. if you've ever read the satanic bible or anything, it's kind of like that.
so i think it would be kind of cool if stuff like this really existed. if lovecraft really did know about a secret book that gives you immense power. but it would be like those books bound in human skin with a lock that would suck you in if you opened it. oooo
well anyway, i haven't ever read any lovecraft, but i keep thinking i should (i'm not sure if i'd like horror books or not though). i actually learned about the necronomicon from robert anton wilson's books, the illuminatus! trilogy (or was it
schrodinger's cat?). one thing that's stuck with me since i read it was this passage:
gestorben ist nicht, was für ewig ruht,
und mit unbekannten aonen mag sogar der tod noch sterben
or as it is in the necronomicon:
That is not dead which can eternal lie.
And with strange aeons even death may die.
